About Heels Dance Classes in Nottingham

Heels is stylish, attitude-led choreography danced up on a heel — a style pieced together from commanding walks, body rolls, hair flicks and floor work, all riding fresh pop and R&B. Our weekly heels classes in Nottingham build on the four things the style leans on most: posture, balance, power and presence. Across the weeks you build a walk with genuine intent, lines that hold, a controlled journey down to the floor and back up again, and finally the knack of stitching the lot into a routine you can take to a stage or a dancefloor.

Nottingham is packed with nightlife and a huge student population across the University of Nottingham and NTU, yet a dependable weekly heels class for adult beginners and improvers has been hard to pin down. Ours run from our studio in Nottingham city centre, a short walk from Old Market Square and the Lace Market and a straightforward trip for dancers in Beeston, West Bridgford, Long Eaton and out towards Derby and Mansfield. With the NET tram dropping you right in the middle, the focus stays as much on how you feel as on how you move — confidence comes first, and the choreography is the joyful way you get there.

Turning up in heels is not expected, and neither is any prior dancing. Most people keep their trainers on for the early weeks and only graduate to a movable pair of heels once they feel steady on their feet — there is no clock ticking and no pressure in either direction. What Heels Gives You

Attitude That Lasts

Heels coaches you to take a room like it already belongs to you. That mix of posture, commanding walks and choreography leaves you with a self-assurance that lingers well beyond the moment you unlace the shoes.

Balance & Power

Working on a raised heel recruits the ankles, core and legs far more than flat dancing ever asks of them, growing real steadiness, balance and lower-body strength with every session you do.

A Routine to Show Off

You walk out of every session owning a complete routine of walks, rolls and floor work that films beautifully and turns heads on a night out — kept for good and danced whenever the mood strikes.

Begin at Your Own Pace

Showing up in trainers for your first class is no problem whatsoever. The technique is coached patiently, so heels only come into play — and only a movable pair — once you feel genuinely steady underfoot.

Your Heels Dance Journey

From your first assured walk to performing a full routine dripping with attitude — here is how it tends to unfold.

Week 1–4

Standing Tall

Getting Started

We open on posture, the heels walk and a handful of starter body rolls, with balance drills teaching your weight exactly where to live. The early aim is carrying yourself with purpose well before the quicker choreography turns up.

Shoe Advice

Happy to begin flat? Trainers are spot on. The moment heels tempt you, pick a chunky block or platform you can move around in freely, and save the needle-thin stilettos for once your ankles have toughened.

Month 2–3

Finding Your Power

Developing Technique

Hair flicks, isolated hips, knee drops and a controlled melt down to the floor, all underwritten by the ankle and core conditioning that keeps the showier material tidy and injury-free.

Choreography Basics

Bite-size phrases that thread a walk, a spin and a shift of level together. This is the moment the dancing tips from careful and counted into something punchy and self-assured.

Month 4–6

Owning the Performance

Floor Work & Attitude

Whole floor passages now — sinking drops, slides, reaching leg extensions and neat returns to standing — dressed in the character and bite that nobody confuses for any other style.

Finding Your Style

Smouldering R&B, ferocious pop, or something cheeky and stagey — you settle on the mood that reads as you and begin building a recognisable signature.

Month 6+

The Heels Performer

Advanced Choreography

Longer and quicker routines, packed with snappy transitions and fiddly floor work, danced flat-out with the sheen and composure of a proper performance.

What Comes Next

Step sideways into commercial or contemporary to broaden your technique, capture clips for your feed, or grab a slot in a showcase the next time one rolls around.

Heels Dance FAQ

The things dancers most often check before they slip into a pair of heels.

What really happens in a weekly heels class? +

It is stylish, attitude-first choreography danced up on a heel. You can expect commanding walks, body rolls, hair flicks and floor work set to fresh pop and R&B, all anchored in posture, balance, power and presence. We pull every routine apart move by move, so whatever your level you can learn it and dance it like you mean it.

Do I actually have to wear heels to take part? +

Not in the slightest. Plenty of people stay in trainers for as long as it suits them, since the technique behaves the same way flat or lifted. Once you fancy the heels, choose a pair built around a solid block or platform that you can really move in, and park the thin stilettos until later.

I am a total beginner — is the heels class still for me? +

It absolutely is. The class welcomes mixed ability and is shaped so newcomers feel at home from the first track. We begin with posture, walking and weight control, then build the choreography on top, which means you lay proper foundations instead of being dropped into a routine on night one.

How much does a heels class in Nottingham cost? +

A single drop-in is £10 and there is nothing to commit to. If you would rather lock it in, a four-week block runs to £32, working out at £8 each week. No contracts and no joining fees — you simply pick the weeks that suit your diary.

Whereabouts in Nottingham do the heels classes run? +

Our weekly heels crowd meets at our studio in Nottingham city centre, a short walk from Old Market Square and the Left Lion and close to the Lace Market and Hockley. With the NET tram and the station nearby, it is an easy run in from Beeston, West Bridgford, Long Eaton and beyond. Ask us and we will steer you to the right session.

Will dancing in heels be tough on my body? +

Yes, as long as you build up steadily, which is how we run every class. The early weeks centre on where your weight lands, lowering under control and strengthening the ankles before any quick choreography or floor work appears. Knee pads soften the floor sections, and you only move up in height once your balance is properly solid.

What sets heels apart from a commercial class? +

Think of commercial as that punchy, music-video energy, nearly always danced flat in trainers. Heels lifts the very same performance feel up onto the shoe, tightening the posture, the lines and the walks while folding in sultry body rolls and floor work. Close relations, the two of them, yet heels only truly ignites through the heel itself.

Are the heels classes women-only? +

Far from it — the room is open to all, no matter your gender. Heels runs on expression, self-belief and movement, and people from every walk of life come alive in it. Wear the heels or keep the trainers, whichever sits right with you, and join a group that has each other's backs.

Can heels dancing really make me more confident? +

That is the whole idea behind it. Holding yourself tall, owning a walk and performing choreography you doubted you could manage gradually shifts how you carry yourself. Most dancers leave the studio standing that bit prouder, and the lift tends to travel with them through the week.

Could I arrange a private heels lesson just for me? +

Definitely — a private one-to-one, or a booking covering your whole group, can be set up at whatever time suits. They work brilliantly for refining technique at your own speed, getting a routine ready for a big occasion or topping up your confidence before you join the weekly class. Drop us a line and we will get the particulars squared away.
